5 miles uphill- Backpacking or Forced March?

Well, Brant and I survived overnight backpacking this weekend- and we are still married! Day one was great- 2 miles of even ground and lots of shade leading to the prettiest little camping spot. level groung next to a creek with a fire pit and these really cool chairs made from big rocks with noone else for miles and miles. We didn't pass another hiker on our way in or out! Even sleeping on a thin foam mat was not bad. But there was the varment that scratched at our tent all night looking for food- that wasn't pleasant!
Turns out I'm terrified of snakes too- not scared- fobia-style terrified! We crossed a creek about a mile in and still had our flip flops on letting our feet dry when Brant, who fortunately was a few feet ahead of me, screams "Oh $#!+" ! I look down to see a rattle snake right next to his foot! he took a few steps forward and found a branch with which to move it since it was coiled and shaking it's tail rather than having slithered away scared.  I'm frozen with fear, wimpering and begining to hyperventalate! Brant attempts to move the snake, but I begin to scream, becuase it is pointing my direction and I'm afraid that when it moves it is going to move towards me! Brant ends up taking off his flops and putting on his hiking shoes, then going the long way around the snake to come and get me and put my shoes on! By the time this is done the snake is gone, but after that every sudden stop from brant over the next 2 days and six miles meant a shreak of fright from me! Some lizzards moved too quickly in the grass at one point and I litterally climbed up Brant's side!
Minus the snake day one was great! Day two was a different story! Because we hiked only 2 miles the first day to get to the camp ground, we had 5 more to go to finish the loop the next day! We visited a few old homesteads and a late 1800's cemetary, which were all very fun, but other than that, it was more of a forced march than a hike. We took pictures on top of a beautiful bluff at the end, shortly after I had sat down and cried and refused to go any further! I cussed brant and cried during the last 30 minutes of the trip- it was not pleasant! But all-and- all we had a really good time. We might go again in, say, another 10 years or so!
